The protests in the Moroccan capital Rabat over the crashing to death of a fish vendor last week by a garbage truck are said to be turning political, as many of the organizers and advocates of the latest protests hail from the February 20 Movement.
The movement was at the heart of the 2011 uprising in Morocco when a wave of revolt swept across the Arab world against authoritarian rulers.
Nearly a thousand people demonstrated on Sunday in Rabat in the latest of a string of protests against the killing of Mouhcine Fikri whose death shocked the country.
Demonstrators chanted “we want justice for Mouhcine martyr”, “stop the arbitrariness and injustice” as well as “arbitrariness is division” among others.
Gathered in the late afternoon in the center of the capital, near the walls of the Old Town, the protesters waved political flags and marched without incident to the Parliament building.
